I have been a silent and quiet worker all these years. It is indeed my philosophy to do high quality work and lots of work without making any noise or publicity about it. It only sounds like yesterday; that I started my practice in March 1991. In these last 22 years, I have completed well over 14000 Open Heart Surgeries. Some of these procedures have indeed been path breaking. Out of these 22 years, in the last 18 years, I have constantly crossed 700 to 800 Open Heart Surgeries annually. All these surgeries are performed by me in toto. Other surgeons do not perform my operations and get counted in my name. Also in the last 18 years, I am the highest individual surgeon performing in this city. When it comes to Bypass Surgery, most of my patients get arterial grafts with Left Internal Mammary Artery (LIMA) and Radial Artery (RA) grafts being standard. In fact we now have over 10,000 patients with Radial Artery grafts, which will be amongst the highest in the world.
We also started the revolution of Tissue Heart Valve Surgery, way back in 1999. Other surgeons would laugh at me in 1999 as to what I was doing. But 15 years later that has become the standard of practice. Recently we have also started minimal access AVR and M.V. repair surgery.
In these 22 years, we also have more than our fair share of publications and articles in scientific journals. Asian book of Heart Valve Surgery will be released in November’13, in which I have contributed to 2 chapters. So there are plenty of things we have been busy with in the last two decades. Yes, I still do not believe in making of much noise and wish to continue the good work in the future as well. I still leave home at 7 in the morning and reach back home only at midnight.
